On the unforgiving northern frontier, civilization survives only where the roads hold. Beyond them, the wilderness doesn't just kill - it hunts.
When creatures breach the walls of his village, ten-year-old Sten watches his sister die protecting him. Consumed by guilt, he gives himself to the Wardens - the only force standing between the frontier and the dark.
They promise to make him strong. They deliver. But their training reshapes more than skill, and the boy who felt too much is becoming stone.
Some fires don't stay buried.
A dark fantasy about trauma, transformation, and the price of becoming what you need to survive.
For fans of Joe Abercrombie, Robin Hobb, Anthony Ryan, and Mark Lawrence

The Northern Frontier
The Northern Frontier is where civilization ends and the wilderness begins. Roads are lifelines, settlements are islands of safety in a sea of dark pine and jagged stone, and the creatures that stalk the deep forest do not negotiate. Winter comes hard and early. Help is always days away. Those who survive learn to endure.
The Wardens keep the roads open. They patrol the routes between villages, respond to breaches, and maintain the fragile chain that connects the frontier to the world beyond. Their protection comes at a cost. Their methods are not always kind. But without them, the roads would fail - and when roads fail, people die.
About the Author
Andreas Selevik lives in Sweden with his wife Moa and does most of his writing after dark, when the house finally goes quiet. He has been reading fantasy since Tolkien's The Hobbit found its way into his hands as a child, and the list of authors who shaped him runs long: Eddings, Feist, Jordan, Martin, Hobb, Abercrombie, Rothfuss, and more.
Steel and Spark is his first novel. He is currently working on Book Two.
